It's 2017. You can make this year your year; show everyone on campus who you are and what you're about.

Have a voice that carries with it empowerment and promise – empowering Middlesex students and promising to be a part of their lives the way they will always be a part of yours.

You finally get to be the change you wish to see in the world.

With us so far? Here are 6 top reasons you should consider nominating yourself - or recommending someone you know - for the #MDXSUElections this year!

1) There's no person specification - just be the best you that you can be.

All you really need is an enthusiasm to change Middlesex and its student life for the better - as well as maintain an interest in your fellow students. There is no experience required for any of our full-time or part time posts.

Once you're elected you’ll get all the training, support and information you need to do your job – you aren’t expected to have any prior knowledge of how things work within the university or Students’ Union ☺

2) It's a new experience for almost everyone.

Standing for election and campaigning for votes is a completely new experience for the vast majority of candidates. It can be nerve-wracking, but don't worry! The Students' Union will be on hand to help every candidate prepare for your campaign (and new job if you're successfully elected).

As well as support from the MDXSU Student Voice team and drop-in info and training sessions - find our pop-up SU in MDX House 11am-3pm! All candidates will receive a campaigning budget and materials, so don’t worry about racking up a printing bill for your piles of flyers. You'll also be able to recruit your friends to help you campaign, which leads us onto...

3) You won't be on your own.

Having a fire campaign team just means celebrating all your hard work that much harder on results night!

Your campaign team can help you with designing your promotional material and manifesto, as well as talking to students on your behalf about how amazing you are during voting week. As well as your campaign team, you'll receive free training, mentoring and useful resources from the Students' Union. With everyone's help, you'll be able to do more and be in multiple places at once!

4) In your final year? He-LLOOOOO GRAD JOB.

Our full-time positions aren't just for final year students, but if you are graduating this year, how about walking out of university straight into a full-time, £21,840-a-year job with 25 days paid annual leave this July? And not just any grad job - a grad job at the top of an organisation, where you are responsible for directing our work.

By the July 2018 - or July 2019 if you successfully stand for a second term - you’ll have utilised all the skills you gained through your degree and gained a whole host of other ones, setting you up perfectly for your next career move!

5) It looks amazing on your CV.

Yes, we know - standing for election isn't just about boosting your employability, but it's an amazing side effect! Whatever position you're standing for, you'll gain a wealth of skills and experience that employers will love, even if you don't get elected. Solely by standing and campaigning you'll gain evidence of public speaking, time-management, written and verbal communication, strategy, leading and teamwork, and more.

6) You'll leave a genuine legacy at Middlesex and beyond.

If you get elected, whether to a full-time or part-time position, you’ll have the power and position to make a genuine difference at MDX, in the local community and even nationally.

Over the past couple years, students leaders at MDXSU have successfully campaigned to resettle fifty Syrian refugees in Barnet; they’ve sat in university meetings and blocked proposals which would have had a negative effect on students; they’ve funded free and subsidised sanitary products for students on campus; established a free bike-hire scheme; got a microwave for students in the Ritterman Buidling; extended opening hours of building and catering outlets, played a key part in developing university strategy; and had a key say in our events and elections.

Whether you’re working full-time as a President or Vice President, a part-time School Voice Leader, or a student trustee discussing our strategy and finances at termly Trustee Boards, you'll have the power to make change and turn your ideas into action.
