Welcome Month has been such a warm welcoming time for so many of us! Firstly, we – the Student Officer team, would like to warmly welcome all of you – both new and returning students for the new academic year.
As we all know, Middlesex University is in Hendon, but many of us don’t know about the history of Hendon. The earlier origin of Hendon was name “Hendun” – meaning “at the highest hill” and this is why the surroundings of Hendon is located on hills.
One of the most famous, and my personal favourite spot, is ‘Sunning Hills Park” which is just a 5 minute walk from our Hendon campus. It is an amazing scenery spot and one of the best places to have an outdoor picnic. The locales in Hendon include Church End, West Hendon and the Hyde, Hendon Central, Brent Street and Brent Green.
I have stayed in Hendon throughout my studies because of the diverse culture I get to see and the fact that it is such a cosy and convenient place, especially for someone who loves traveling to into different parts of London as the public transport is so easily available that you don’t have to think about the hassle of traveling.
The reason I love living in Hendon is because of the wide cultural variety. I’m a foodie and Hendon is full of different cultural foods – from being able to wake up to having an English Breakfast, to having Halal, and Kosher foods for lunch, and then a Chinese dinner – there are hundreds of different options within walking distance of our University campus.
One of my favourites is Munchizz – located on the Church End Road just a 5-minute walk from campus – which in my opinion has fantastic food options. But there are so many cafes, restaurants, and pubs close to us so you can never run out of options.
If you’re someone who loves to engage in outdoor activities, or to silently read a book with a beautiful view – then here’s some parks you will love: Hendon Park, Brent Park, Creek Hendon – make sure you give them a visit, but there are lots more!
Also near us in Hendon is the Brent Cross Shopping Centre which contains lots of famous brands and is conveniently located for easy access. Near to the shopping centre is a trampoline park which I recommend you try out with your friends!
My biggest piece advice for Hendon – get exploring! There’s so much to try and to learn about so go for it! Please send me photos and videos of you exploring it and make sure you tag MDXSU if you want to share your exploration story on social media!
