The summer of 2014 has been a time of renewal here at Middlesex, with the university’s social hub undergoing a dramatic and stylish renovation thanks to successful negotiations between MDXSU and the university. Due to the hard work of the campus staff and the construction teams, we’re excited to announce that MDX House will be ready for new arrivals from September 15th!
The campus bar/canteen/home to MDXSU and MDX Sport (formerly known as the Forum and notorious for being not that enjoyable a place to be) is currently having the finishing touches put in places, with ergonomic furniture being laid out and trendy caged lightbulbs being fitted.
The 'urban' design, which Middlesex students voted for during MDXSU's elections week, features a strong colour palette of red, grey and timber, with space on the walls for Art students to frame and display their work.
New doors to the newly constructed MDX House terrace have been installed, the sound system and pool tables have been upgraded, a DJ booth constructed, AND the bar will be up and running in time for our Health and Education social on 18th September.
The construction and campus staff teams have been working overtime throughout the summer to get the works in place, with a last minute addition of new temporary seminar rooms increasing the scope of the project. These new rooms are kitted out with AV facilities and will give students more space and ease pressure on timetabling for academic staff too.
The terrace that replaces the tennis courts in front of the Forum are still being completed and will be finished by Friday October 6th; however these works won’t get in the way of students making a beeline for the new MDX House facilities as pathways are set to be completed by Monday 15th September, just in time for the MDXSU Welcome Weeks.
Finally, the works on the Astroturf pitches behind MDX House will create two 7 a side football pitches (which can also be used for larger 9 a side matches) and three multi-use courts (tennis, basketball, cricket nets) being installed. Students with a taste for adventure and a head for heights will be pleased to hear that a brand new bouldering wall is also being installed in this area.
These sports pitches are all set to be ready for students to use by 17th October - perfect timing for those of you looking to get active as the cold nights begin to draw in!
