Improving the lives of Middlesex University students has always been our goal and everything we do is to support that goal, including our visual brand identity. The existing MDXSU brand no longer served its purpose and that is why we carried out a rebrand in search of a look representing our students.
PURPOSE, AMBITIONS, & APPROACH
We value inclusivity and innovation and depend on students to shape our work. This outlook led us to our new Purpose, Ambitions and Approach:
Purpose - We exist to promote Equity for individual students, Citizenship within our University and Social Justice in the world around us.
Ambition - We will advance Leadership, Wellbeing, Networks, and Social Action in all our work.
Approach - We will take an innovative and inclusive approach through Culture, Governance, Voice, and Partnerships.
We worked with SEED Creative brand agency to develop a new visual brand identity that’s easy to recognise and, most importantly, connects with Middlesex students.
Step 1: Getting your thoughts
We spoke to students, Students’ Union staff, and University staff to incorporate their thoughts on how we should present ourselves and our values. Our mission remained the same: improving the lives of students.
Step 2: Concepts & Ideas
Stakeholders' feedback and further market research were analysed to create several concept ideas. The final ‘Equality in Type’ concept best represented our values towards equity, emphasising the beauty in our differences and diversity.
Step 3: Brand identity
The concept offered a basis to develop the new, complete visual brand identity for MDXSU.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Implementations of the new brand will be rolled out over the next few months across all areas of the Students’ Union. Our digital channels, including our website and social media, will take effect immediately.
