At MDX we are proud of our diversity, and your university and students’ union are committed to doing what it takes to ensure that all students can fully engage in university activities.
We know that students of colour are more likely to face barriers when accessing education, which is why MDXSU and Middlesex University have launched a research project on inclusive practices for students of colour, facilitated by The Student Engagement Partnership (TSEP) alongside seven other UK Higher Education providers. This project will help us to understand barriers that prevent students from engaging, and enable us to make our practices more accessible.
We have already made steps to define what constitutes a Student of Colour within a Middlesex context, by comparing the demographic data of our Student Voice Leaders with the demographic data for the university overall. Student Voice Leaders are at the heart of our representation, so it’s important that these roles are accessible to all students.
In the next phase of our research we are focusing on the experience of students of colour as Student Voice Leaders, and we want your input. If you’re a Student Voice Leader of colour, what has your experience been so far? If you’re a student of colour and not a Student Voice Leader, what stopped you from putting yourself forward? Your insight is vital in shaping how we recruit, train, develop and support our Student Voice Leaders in ways that enable Students of Colour to engage.
We will be facilitating focus groups on the following dates:
