Voting for this year's MDXSU Elections is now open.
As a student at Middlesex, this is your chance to decide who should lead your Students' Union next year, including your President and Vice Presidents.
These elected students will be responsible for representing you and your views next year, fighting your corner in university decisions and working to improve your time as a student here, so it's really important to vote for candidates who will deliver changes you want to see. Voting is open between 10am Monday 13th and 1pm Friday 17th March.
Wondering how to vote and who to vote for? Here's everything you need to know about voting week!
Oh, you're a Middlesex student? CONGRATULATIONS, you get to vote! You can vote online at www.mdxsu.com/vote (log in as a student using your university login - the same you use for myUniHub), or visit one of our polling stations on campus. For more voting support, click here.
There are seven elections you can vote in: the President, three Vice Presidents, the School Voice Leader for your school, our Student Trustees and the Democracy and Involvement Committee (DAIC). These are all important roles, so it's important you elect the best people for the job across all positions - read on for a bit more info on how to do that!
Your candidates have created manifestos which outline who they are and what they want to achieve if elected - whether that's improvements to uni services or wider campaigns beyond campus. You can read these manifestos online at www.mdxsu.com/elections/candidates, or flick through the manifesto guide online or at a polling station.
Your candidates will be out in force between 10am Monday 13th and 1pm Friday 17th March. Grab them for a chat to find out a bit more about them and their ideas for your campus. Alternatively, come along to Question Time in the Quad at 5pm Monday 13th March, where you'll get to hear a short speech from each of the full-time candidates for the President and Vice President positions, and you'll have the chance to quiz them on their manifesto pledges too.
Not quite sure which of the candidates to vote for for each role? Use your preferences. Mark your favourite candidate as your first choice, then mark your second, third and fourth and so on favourites accordingly.
If nobody receives above the required quota of votes in the first round, these second/third/fourth preference votes will be shared amongst the remaining candidates, and can be crucial in deciding an election - in 2015 one of the Vice President elections was won by one vote in round seven of voting!
None of the candidates floating your boat? There's another option. Each election includes an option to Re-Open Nominations, or RON. If RON wins an election, the election will be held again, with a further opportunity for students to nominate themselves and vote.
We'll be announcing the results of this week's voting at Results Night in MDX House this Friday 17th March! Join us from 6pm to celebrate the week, hear which candidates have won awards for their campaigns, and then find out the all-important results... Click here for more information!
