Voting has opened in this week's elections!
Did you know that Middlesex Students' Union is led by elected students who are voted in by their fellow students?
This week MDXSU are hosting elections for several different part-time positions, with the students you elect being responsible for representing your course, your hall or directing the work of your Students' Union.
These are important roles and you deserve to have the best candidates, so it's important you have you say!
The positions you will be able to vote for include Student Voice Leaders, Student Trustees, Halls Leaders and members of our Democracy and Involvement Committee, which you can find out more about below. Candidates for all of these roles will be listed on the voting pages of our website along with their manifestos, which outline who they are and why they want to be elected.
Voting is open until 10pm this Sunday 30th October, with voting taking place online at www.mdxsu.com/vote
There is one Student Voice Leader for each year of each course at Middlesex. They act as a key link between their coursemates, the university and the Students' Union. They have the power to ensure issues get resolved, and ideas get implemented.
If you are unable to vote for a Student Voice Leader, this is either because the election was uncontested - for example, one Student Voice Leader position was available for your year of your course, and only one student nominated themselves - or because we received no nominations. If no nominations were received, you will be able to put yourself forward to become the Voice Leader for your course, ensuring your coursemates have a voice and have a representative for the coming year. The Trustee Board is the MDXSU's highest governing body! Our Student Trustees attend trustee meetings once or twice a term, sitting alongside the four full-time Student Officers and our expert external trustees to discuss finances, strategy and long term goals for your Students' Union.
There are twenty candidates competing for two spots on our Trustee Board in these elections - make sure you read their manifestos! If you haven't nominated yourself but are interested in becoming a Student Trustee, there will also be further opportunities to join the Trustee Board at our main MDXSU Elections in the spring.
The Democracy and Involvement Committee (DAIC) meet two to three times a term, and it's their job to make sure that Middlesex Students' Union is accessible and reaching out to all areas of the student population. DAIC have strategic control over how MDXSU run our democracy, meaning they prepare election rules and decide the democratic calendar for the academic year.
Twelve students have put themselves forward to join the committee in these elections, with three spots available. If you haven't nominated yourself but are interested in being part of DAIC, there will also be further opportunities to get elected at our main MDXSU Elections in the spring.
This year, for the first year ever, students were able to put themselves forward to become Halls Leaders for their Halls of Residence. Their role is to take feedback about their halls to the University and Students' Union - whether that's a problem which needs resolving, or an idea for a new community event or communal feature in their accommodation!
There were no contested elections this year, so all students who nominated themselves will now become Halls Leaders for the coming year. Their details will be available online soon at www.mdxsu.com/halls-leaders
It only take a few minutes to vote - just go to www.mdxsu.com/vote, sign in using your university login, then view the candidates and have your say!
