Mary Seacole: The Real Angel of the Crimea Film Screening

The docudrama was made for Channel 4, directed by Sonali Fernando and produced by Paul Kerr. The piece is about feisty, fearless Victorian heroine, Mary Seacole, a Jamaican doctress who saved the lives of dozens and tended the dying during the Crimean War. She was the first ‘British’ woman of colour to write her autobiography, which became an unlikely bestseller in the 1850s. She now figures in the national curriculum and was voted the greatest black Briton in a 2004 poll.

Two reviews of Mary Seacole: The Real Angel of the Crimea.

“An engrossing biodoc made with flair and aplomb. A treat.” – Time Out.

“Absorbing documentary. An extraordinary film.” – The Observer.
