As part of Raquel Marques Mental Health Campaign, SOS (Stressed Out Students) will provide alternative stress relief methods to practice alongside, in the interim, or to prevent the need for more traditional mental health practices (e.g. counselling therapy). Find full event listings here.
MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING
WHAT: This session is aimed to give students an understanding of mental health symptoms and when they should seek specialist support for themselves, friends or family members. This will be an interactive session with mental health professionals, using videos, images and discussion.
By the end of the session students will be able to recognise a mental health issue and be able to take away tips on how to support themselves, a friend or family member should they experience a mental health issue, such as anxiety or panic attack. The session will also cover how to provide support and direct people towards the appropriate services.
Please note these sessions are intended for learning students. They are not for self-help or a counselling session. If you need immediate support please book an appointment with the Wellbeing Services at Middlesex University or visit and contact the Samaritans https://www.samaritans.org/ for confidential telephone or face-to-face support.
WHO: This session will be run by our very own Alfonso Pezzella – School of Health and Education.
